I've been on a Podcast and the conversation got real

A few weeks ago I sat down with Christopher Cloke Browne for the Confidence to Thrive podcast, and I have to say, it turned into one of those conversations that covers far more ground than you expect.

We talked about neurodegeneration, functional nutrition, and the systemic gaps in how we currently care for people with conditions like motor neurone disease, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's. These aren't easy topics, but they're ones I'm deeply passionate about, and I'm glad we gave them the space they deserve.

What we got into

One of the threads I found most meaningful was this question of what "helping someone" actually means in the context of a progressive neurological condition. So much of the conventional narrative centres on disease management and lifespan, but what about lived experience? Quality of life rarely gets the same airtime, and that imbalance matters enormously to the patients and families I work with.

We also talked about the use of ultra-processed PEG feeds and why, in my view, that's an area that needs far greater scrutiny. If we're serious about nutrition playing a role in supporting neurological health, we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard, not reach for convenience at the expense of the patient.

The conversation moved into territory around professional divides and regulation too. There's a real tension between functional and conventional medicine that doesn't serve anyone well, least of all patients. I believe strongly in multidisciplinary teams, not as an ideal to aspire to, but as a practical necessity, and I think we're at a point where the research, the clinical outcomes, and frankly the patient demand all point in the same direction.

Why I think this matters to you

Whether you're a practitioner, someone navigating a diagnosis for yourself or a loved one, or simply someone who thinks our approach to brain health could be better, I hope this episode gives you something to take away. Even if it just prompts a question you hadn't thought to ask before, that's a start.
