Diet and depression - what does the research say?

According to the Office of National Statistics, from the period 29 September to 23 October 2022, approximately one in six adults experienced moderate to severe depressive symptoms. The root cause of depression isn't fully understood and is thought to be multifactorial, however, researchers in Holland have identified links between gut health and depression. in 2022, researchers investigated the relationship between microbiome diversity and composition and depressive symptoms in 2,593 participants.


Most significantly, bacteria belonging to the Ruminococcaceae family were depleted in those with higher depressive symptoms
